“White Gold UFO”

This is a brilliant example of what makes Piaget the head of the monarchy when it comes to classic dress timepieces. At barely 6mm thin and 32mm across, this watch melts away when it needs to and shines brilliantly just the same. This due to its hobnail guilloché or “Clous de Paris” finished 18K white gold case and silver dial. Paired with its integrated mesh bracelet, also in 18K white gold, this watch emanates charisma without screaming across the room. White gold, am I right?

Mechanically, Piaget also outdid themselves, this leveraging the famous manual wind 9P movement, at the time the thinnest manually wound watch caliber in the world.

Called a “Disco Volante” because of its UFO inspired case design, the term literally translates from Italian to mean “flying saucer”. Other things we love are the crispy 18K gold hallmarks on the case and Piaget signed buckle and the beautiful thin steel blued hands which pop in the right lights adding a bit more rizz to an already confident and shimmering watch.

Piaget as a brand has always stood for elegance and opulence yet never more than during the 60s through the 80s when the house opted to utilize exotic designs and wild stones like jade, onyx, lapis, malachite and more on their dials. This reference, while not stone, offers an amazing value. In a full precious 18K white gold at under $5K, Piaget in this configuration will be considered a steal in a few years time.

The watch was adjusted in October 2023 and runs well only losing 30 seconds a day. There is no other service history to our knowledge.

The Details

The dial and its text is crispy and free from abrasion. The silver has started to patina charmingly around the perimeter to a warm sunset hue in certain lights. Slight oxidation around the outside of the dial can be seen with inspection, please see photos.

The case is sharp with only slight wear. We believe it has remained unpolished.

The bracelet is supple and smooth with honest wear. No intense warping. Some light bending below on 6 o’clock side but does not impact wear or cosmetics. Clasp is robust and secure. Weight is 61 grams including movement.
