1980's Audemars Piguet "Tropical" Royal Oak

Sold

A handsome and rugged 36mm 1980’s Audemars Piguet Royal in steel and 18K gold with an incredible brassing patina around the dial.

I don’t need to elaborate on the obvious but the Royal Oak might be the most important wristwatch to be released in the last 50 years. Designed by legend Gerald Genta (yadda yadda) this watch and all of its variants are infallible.

This example, a ref. 14486SA, from the 1980’s comes in at a balanced 36mm in warm steel and 18K gold powered by an automatic AP caliber. Biased here but 36mm Royal Oaks are my favorite size. More charm comes in the form of its old style font under the AP logo at 12 and its unique patina around the dial.

Love it or hate it, it adds loads of personality to already rugged and industrially elegant watch. This watch is running well and keeping accurate time and will fit a 6.8 inch wrist.
